WEBSITE SUPPORTING THIS APPLET NO LONGER EXISTS.

I have released a new version of the Geld Optimizer Applet. Now you too can experience the benefits of the market and have fun doing it!

RECENT CHANGES IN THE WAY TOWNS GIVE GELD MAKE THIS APPLET OUTDATED NOW

How to use it:

Punch in: 1) Current stats about your kingdom, such as pop, towns, farms, and wilderness. 2) How few workshops you're willing to tolerate. 3) How little land you're willing to have. (Set to 0 if you don't care.) 4) How few nodes, forts, and barracks you're willing to have. 5) The number of turns you want to optimize for. 6) Leave "Number of failures allowed" alone until you get a feel for the program. A smaller number makes it work faster, but gives inferior results.

You get: A plan for spending your turns to achieve optimal geld.

Because your explores won't be perfectly average, you may need to rerun the optimizer when you can't build as many buildings as it suggests.

What it's good for:

This program can give decent output for the 121 turn geld start (I got 22.2 million); however the 121 turn geld start has been studied religiously by gelding fanatics, so you're better off using this program for higher turn counts like 180+.

It's not just for turn-starts. It works great for unitless gelding at any stage of the game.

It's also good for defended gelding. Have some wilderness, tell the program not to eat your nodes or workshops, and use the "No Explore" option. The program will tell you how to build on your available land to optimize geld throughput.

How it works:

Essentially, it just randomizes turns and keeps the randomizations that result in better geld output. Because it's a brute force method, it can be slow, especially with large numbers of turns. Because it's a random process with local minima, you may get better results by running the program twice with the same parameters. Having a fast computer helps!

Enjoy!
