This is a contract of stealing issued by the thieves' guild master. It allows the possessor to pick an unfortunate mage and ask the thieves to steal from him. The thieves then steal from that mage and the geld that they do steal becomes the property of the possessor.

Effects

Enables the user to steal one of the following if the Letter passes through barriers:

  • Random amount of Geld
  • A randomly-chosen Lesser Item (Minor Indulgences and Magical Compasses cannot be stolen; the attempt will fail if one of these items is chosen as the random item). In addition, it is more likely that an item of higher quantity is chosen as the item to be stolen from the target
  • A Unique Item
    • On all servers except for the Arch Server, the chances to steal a Unique from the target is x%, where x is the number of Unique Items owned by the target (5 Uniques owned = 5% chance)
    • On the Arch Server, the chances to steal a Unique is x squared; for example, if the target owns 5 Unique Items, then there is a 25% chance to steal one of them. These chances are capped at 99% (reserved for when the target owns 10+ Unique Items)
    • This remains the only way to deliberately steal a Unique from a target enemy mage; when the die is rolled, if it corresponds to a number assigned to the target's Uniques, then there is a 50% chance to successfully steal that Unique, and a 50% chance that that Unique is returned to the Unique Pool, and thus lost by both the user and the target
