Effects
Tactics raises accuracy by 1% per level, starting at level 14.
* Considering all regular attacks (and defense) starts out at 30% accuracy, a 1% increase is a bonus of 3.33% to your overall attack.
* Considering a siege attack, base accuracy is 20% (for units without Flying or Siege ability). A 1% accuracy increase then means 5% bonus.
* At higher Tactics levels, the difference in hero impact to Regular and Siege battles increases more.
* The common hero ability Valor is often compared to the Warlord's Tactics. Heroes with Valor enabled (LVL 9 and higher) are much easier and cheaper to get than the high level (LVL 14+) Warlord. See Valor versus Tactics.

Charisma increases recruiting
* nice extra for during armageddon, but that's it. Barracks are cheaper. Tactics is the Warlord's main ability.

Usage
Warlord is an interesting hero, and one that often commands a very high cost.
His Tactics ability is what he is purchased for, but he gets this only at lvl 14,
Below that level, the hero has no abilities, just a meager MELEE attack and a tremendous gold cost. Yet, at 12th lvl he would cost 70,000 geld a turn. So unless you got geld to burn, I wouldn't recommend getting him until at least 13th lvl.

See Valor versus Tactics.

Protecting your hero
He is a giant of red speciality. The only Eradication Giants are Fire Giants and Ogres.
* If leading Fire Giants or Ogres, he will give their attacks efficiency bonus.

Effects
** Neither does the Engineer (these are magical buildings, only the mage can make them)
* If you build 50 barriers at once you will
** first pay the building cost 50 barriers times 50 m.p. = 2500 m.p.
** but also pay the upkeep for 50 barriers times 30 m.p. for 50 turns at a cost of 75,000 mana in upkeep alone.

resourcesnav

Basics
Geld, also known as gold or money

Geld is created by the population in your kingdom. How much geld you generate each turn, depends on the population you have, and what buildings you have put on your land (with emphasis on Towns). There is no cap to the maximum amount of geld you can accumulate, but you can't have less than zero geld (no loans!).

* Geld is consumed by many army units and heroes, by buildings, and by going to war (war expense). Your status report breaks down the total upkeep.
* There are also game features that alter your geld generation. When items, heroes or enchantments reduce your geld generation, that is called 'Hidden upkeep'.
* Geld is a pillageable resource.

The formula for base geld-income is:
* Current Pop * (((100 + 10*Town) / Land) ^ 0.5) + 1000
** When gelding, double the amount given by the formula
** When suffering hidden upkeeps, lower the amount by a certain factor (-10% means factor 0.9)
** It uses the population you have at the end of the turn (confirmed by marty)
** with absolutely no pop, you will still get a tiny 1000 geld, and the next turn you will have the base 50 pop and get already more than 1000 geld.

Game features affecting Geld
Items
* Sage Stone (lesser item), generates 1-2 million of geld (random amount, always price)
* Treasure Chest (lesser item) can generate 500k as one of the random results.
* Treasure Map (lesser item) can generate 300k as one of the random results.
* Official List of Demands (lesser item) can destroy or steal geld
* Letters of the Thieves Guild (lesser item) can steal geld
* Pipes of the Sewer (lesser item) can destroy geld.
* Efreeti Bottle (unique item) can give a large amount of geld.

* Some Uniques reduce your geld generation (e.g. hidden upkeep)
** Some Uniques increase geld generation
* Selling any item on the Black Market returns geld on sale.

Enchantments
* Nature's Favor Green increases geld generation (10% ??)
* Weather Summoning Green increases food production meaning less farms are needed to upkeep same population. Can be used to increase geld, if you not destroy the excess farms.
* Battle Chant Red allows Eradication mages (yes, ONLY red red mages) to steal geld when successfully winning a siege or regular although winning a siege yields more(??).
* Love and Peace White
* (incomplete)

Spells
* Fool's Gold Blue - steals a large amount of geld from target mage.
* (incomplete)
* Wish Blue can give you geld or give you Efreeti Bottle which can give you geld.

Heroes
* Alchemist Plain ....
* Merchant Plain - Trading increases Geld Income by 20k + 20k/lvl.
* (incomplete)

Gods
* Nature god favour and most favour increases normal geld generation (by 10% resp. 20%)
* Nature god disfavour and hatred decreases normal geld generation (by 10% resp. 20%)

Gelding
Gelding generates geld based on your "Income": it doubles what your normal income is.

* Gelding early in the game is a common strategy to get the funds required to buy a good hero or wanted off-color/ancient spell.
* Optimizing gelding envolves a gentle balance between % of towns on your land, allowing population growth to be maximal all the time, by providing excess space for population all the time. There is a nice tool that can help you optimize your gelding.

Zero geld
Zero geld (no positive income for some time, no savings left) is the case of fully depleting your geld, complete stacks of geld consuming units may disband themselves (in random order: you may be able to keep supporting some of your smaller stacks). More dangerous (and ultimately deadly) you may start losing buildings (guilds, workshops, barracks and ultimately forts). In the case of forts: you will lose half of your forts each turn you spend without geld (i.e. you will not die of bankruptcy the next turn, but very well could die within a couple of turns if you don’t take appropriate action).

The Black Market is the place to spend geld in Terra, if you think you have too much of it.

As the server moves on and many mages look for goodies on the black market, prices inflate especially on the faster servers. This means that mages that want rare items from the black market, need to concentrate on getting more than usual ammounts of Geld, a dedication also known as Whoring.

Anyway, this is how the Black Market works:
* Items can be sold and bought in the Antique Store of the Black Market.
** If you sell a Lesser Item, you receive the current base price of the item (shown on Sell Page), plus a little bit more
** If you sell a Unique, you receive its base price + about 60% of the overbid. UBB thread
* Heroes only be hired (not traded) in the Tavern of Heroes section
* Spells can only be bought (not trade) in the Exotic Mageware section.
** This includes rare Ancient spells, but excludes the speciality-unique ultimate spells.
* Summonable Units can be bought (not traded) in the Spawning Hatchery
** This excludes the speciality-unique ultimate units.
* Mercenary Units can be hired through Swords for Hire.
** These units are only available this way.
* At the Altar of Darkness, devoted mages can buy themselves favours of Gods.

-- see also Players Manual section on bidding --

Bidding
Stuff that you buy on the Black Market, you buy in a flogging. You never know before if your bid will win you the item - it is always possible it is overbid. Pay attention when buying: be sure you bid on the correct item and you enter the correct amount that you wish to bid. You cannot cancel a bid you have made!

* When you place a bid, an amount of geld is taken from your storage.
* The next bid should be at least 5% of the old bid.
* Placing a bid takes one turn (regardless on how many items you do bid) and causes small net power loss.

* Other mages on the server are given 30 minutes to attempt to outbid you.
* If you are outbid you will receive an in-game informing message offering you to quickly re-establish a higher bid.
* Meanwhile, the amount of your original bid is returned to your storage.
** Net power returns some time after the money is returned, to prevent others from spotting you bidding.

* If your bid wins the goodies, you’ll receive a confirming message and will find them in your inventory.

Extended display time
* When new Heroes, Unique Items, Spells and Units appear on the market, they stay in the market for at least 2.5 hours.
** Thereafter they are sold, 30 minutes after the winning bid.

Note: This feature has been enabled/disabled from time to time (developers are trying to make up their mind ;) )

Typical Questions
Too many Mercenaries!!!
Be warned: Troops that you hire this way, occupy population space.
* Be sure to have sufficient towns to house them and sufficient farms to feed them.
* You'll also need suffient ordinary population or a lot of savings to fulfill their geld upkeep.
* When you hire more people than you can host, on their arrival the mercenaries will refuse to work for you - but too bad, you lost your geld.

Why buy spells that you can research yourself?
You may purchase Simple, Average, Complex, and Ancient spells.
* Do not purchase spells that you have already researched, as it will simply be a waste of geld.
* It is rare to find a spell for sale that you are not able to research, but it can be very beneficial to acquire such a spell (because each researched spell increases a mage’s spell level).
