==Introduction==
XChat is a highly featured and configurable IRC client available for Windows, Mac OS, Linux and other platforms. Its main code base is open source, but the official Windows version is shareware. Windows users are therefore recommended to use one of several free open source forks, such as the one linked below.

XChat is also available in the repositories of most Linux distributions and can be installed using the system's package manager. For example, on Ubuntu either search for "xchat" in the Ubuntu Software Center or install using the command line with '''sudo apt-get install xchat'''.

==Configuration==
# Open the Network List window (may open automatically).
# Edit/enter your preferred nickname and other available settings.
# Under Networks: click Add, type "TRirc" or whatever, hit Enter.
# Mark the new network, click Edit.
# Under Servers, click the row saying "newserver/6667" and change it into "irc.the-reincarnation.org/6667", without quotes. Hit Enter.
# Click "Connect automatically to this network on startup".
# Add other settings as you like: favourite (autojoin) channels, nickserv password (if/when you've registered your nick), etc.
# Click "Close".

If you want to connect to GalaxyNet as well, and don't already have it configured, repeat the above steps similarly but adding "exodus.us.galaxynet.org/6667" as the server to connect to. XChat usually has GalaxyNet in its network list with default settings. You can just use that rather than creating a new network (as in step 2), but it is still a good idea to enter the specific exodus server (or another one you like) since many of the random servers it will otherwise try and connect to may not work.

Note also that if you are behind a firewall or otherwise have problems connecting on the above addresses, TRirc offers alternative addresses and ports that you can try connecting to instead. These are listed in the [[TRircHowTo]].
