Bursting is only triggered when Phoenix are attacked by certain Attack types (attacks that are ranged, magic or psychic are an exception).

As many Melee units are Ground units, Phoenixes can be grounded (eg. [[Call Hurricane]]) to make full use of the fireburst. [[Oil Flasks]] and [[Stun]] can be used to reduce the enemy units' resistance to fire, causing the fireburst to deal more damage.

The only reason that phoenix doesn't kill itself with fireburst ("fireburst but phoenix endures") is because it has 100% resistance to fire. If you use any item or spell that lowers its resistance against fire (such as [[Oil Flasks]] and [[Stun]]), it will cause [[Phoenix]]es to damage themselves when their fireburst is triggered.
