Raw Stat Analysis:

AAs have a mid-range Hp/Power at 6.667, but note that due to their high resists throughout, flying and their defensive abilities(beauty, healing) they are very resilient indeed, which is why they are often mono-stacked as a defensive measure.

Offensively, their total attack / Power = 5.33 is quite low. Their holy attack type is only slightly better against opponent lich topstacks.

Basically AAs are classic soakers. Their flying and lack of offensive power makes it quite obvious where their place is in your army: at the top ranks soaking up damage.

However they have a key weakness to breath attacks, (poison and paralyse are rare at the top), so they are still liable to die to chimeras.
