This is empty land in which you can construct new buildings. Every type of building will occupy 1 unit of wilderness. If you have no wilderness left, you cannot build anything at all.

Wilderness is created by exploring. Verdant mages increase their explore returns by 1 acre using their enchantment Nature's Lore.
