This is the random component in the amount of damage dealt by your attacks, except for MAGIC and PSYCHIC attacks, which do not have a random component.

  • 0.25 to 0.75 (average 0.5) for MELEE, HOLY, RANGED, FIRE, MISSILE and any other attack type that is not mentioned below
    • this is decided randomly each strike with an attack (example: the first strike and the second strike of an "Additional Strike" unit will commonly have different random damage modifiers)

Historical

In the past, the modifier for MAGIC and PSYCHIC attacks was 1.0 while the base damage values were half of the current ones. This was changed to prevent confusion.
