This altar gives off a rank, bloody smell and is drenched with deep red blood. You can even see chunks of meat, guts, hearts, and livers all lying on the altar. A deep voice in your heart tells you to sacrifice an innocent to the Altar of Blood... as you do, you feel the energy of the altar beginning to flow into your body.

Attribute: UNIQUE PERMANENT
Charge Turn: 0
Data on this page needs confirmation

Effects

  • Extra income of 2,500 m.p., not shown in Status Report.
  • Takes 5000 population per turn, not shown in Status Report.
    • The income and the upkeep are not related. If you have 0 pop, you still get the m.p. each turn. (Source: Trojan)
    • on Arch, you still get 5,000 m.p. a turn at a cost of 5,000 population per turn.

Usage

  • Beware of getting into a pop spiral with this item.
  • Pillage to generate a population income bigger than 5000 a turn.
  • Icon ERADICATION.gif and Icon NETHER.gif mages who use pop-eaters have more difficulty upkeeping this item than Icon ASCENDANT.gif and Icon VERDANT.gif's
    • especially at low land or when you gain it at a bad moment.
  • If you get into a pop spiral, or worse, face bankrupcy: sell the item.

Recovery from zero-pop

User:t3h_flamee tested recovery from 0 pop while having The Altar of Blood on BETA (forum thread):

  • Altar don't disappear when it zeroes your pop.
  • altar DOES give bonus MP income even with no pop, altho I didn't bother calculating by what percentage(coz it's not 5k or 2,5k).
  • I wasn't researched yet when I had the altar zero my pop (by accident, didn't watch my pop).
  • What I did was build 500 nodes, and cast LA nonstop, with around 1k guilds. Damage surfing. That got me enough items to sell to not die of geld problems, and even buy some BoPs in the meantime. Later on I could even afford Wines, as the item income was more stable.
  • Pillaging for recovery is not effective. IF you're UNGODLY lucky, and manage a streak of 40 10k pop pillages, you might end up with like 60k pop , coz altar takes near 4800 per turn, and then as you gain some minor pop the income starts growing. The point of stability in my case was around 300k pop, when income=upkeep.
  • Recovery started with 44 BoP and 20 wines. Used all 44 books, got like ...150k pop, and then used 8 wines. I'm on 350k pop now. I'm safe, for now. Edited in for clarification. Books gave me around 8k pop each.
  • Icon ASCENDANT.gif mages might have an easier time recovering from the popspiral than in the example above. Oncolor LA and skill would be quite handy in that.
  • Nature favor helps.
Ye olde wiki users might wanna consider trying it out themselves, and mebbe post the results as a guide near the altar description, like a HOW TO Recovery Guide for hapless Altar owners User:t3h_flamee
