Upkeep Cost

Most units and buildings require the player to pay for their upkeep every turn. Depending on the type of unit or building, this upkeep can range from very little to more than a player can afford. Payment will be in Geld, Mana, and/or Population.

If a player ever runs out of the required resource to pay for his empire's upkeep, units will disband and then buildings will be destroyed until the player can afford them.

Upkeep costs are always paid last and will happen after your active income action.

An active income action is:

  • Spending turns Taxing (Gold income)
  • Spending turns MP Charging (MP income)
  • Spending turns Attack/Sieging/Pillaging (Gold or population income)

Example 1:

A mage with 0 gold and 10,000 population and an upkeep of -5,000 gold can spend 1 turn Taxing to receive 10,000 gold and then paying 5,000 gold upkeep, which means the mage now has 5,000 gold after spending the turn taxing (instead of gold crashing)

Example 2:

A mage with 0 gold and 0 population and an upkeep of -25,000 gold and -2,000 population upkeep can spend 2 turns Pillaging to receive say 1,000,000 gold and 5,000 population, which means the mage now has 950,000 gold and 1,000 population after spending the 2 turns pillaging (instead of gold and population crashing)
