Phoenix is an large extra-planar bird related to the element of fire. It has a forth foot wingspan with bright, multi-colored feathers. Its beak and claws are violet in color. It has deep red eyes. It is the symbol of rebirth and freedom. It is a mortal creature with attatchment to the ultimate immortal nature. When it dies, it immortaliates itself into flames, and a young phoenix will be born from the ashes. It has many magical abilities which it can employ at will. In combat, it can attack with its claws and beak, or use its magical abilities. It is a champion of good and a symbol of creation through destruction.

Verdant Units | Spells | Guides

Tactical Hints: Extremely powerful units due to high initiative and firebursts.

Bursting is only triggered when Phoenix are attacked by certain Attack types (namely Melee and Holy). However, Attack type Paralyse prevents phoenix from bursting (overrides other Attack type - eg. Wraiths's Melee Paralyse attack does NOT trigger firebursts).

As many Melee units are Ground units, Phoenixes can be grounded (eg. Call Hurricane) to make full use of the fireburst. Oil Flasks and Stun can be used to reduce the enemy units' resistance to fire, causing the fireburst to deal more damage.

Note:

countering fireburst

The only reason that phoenix doesn't kill itself with fireburst ("fireburst but phoenix endures") is because it has 100% resistance to fire. If you use any item or spell that lowers its resistance against fire (such as Oil Flasks and Stun), it will cause Phoenixes to damage themselves when their fireburst is triggered.
