Spell Level

Spell Level indicates a mage's skill level in handling magic. Spell Level is acquired by learning new spells and is usually the primary factor in determining the strength of a mage's spells. It is advisable to research all available spells early after the creation of a mage in order to utilize high Spell Level.

Basics

  • The number of spells in your spell book (and their difficulty levels) determine your actual SL.
    • i.e. research spells to increase your spell level.
  • Apprentice server not having Ultimate Spells is compensated with +100 SL
    • Mages start at SL 105 to 106 on Apprentice server, at 5 to 6 on other servers.
  • Favour or Disfavour from Magic can affect Spell Level.
  • All or part of some Spells' effects are constant regardless of the caster's Spell Level.
  • A change in spell level does not affect enchantments that were already cast and still in effect, i.e. the strength of the enchantment remains unchanged.
    • e.g. if you cast Plant Growth with +20 spell level because of Magic's favor, it keeps in effect as long as you maintain the upkeep, usually days longer than the god favour lasts.
