Test results
I am a green mage, at only 600 land, 150 guilds, Spell Level so far 197, no Concentration on or what ever.
I bought a level 13 hero Sage (i.e. Researching (9) is at 13-(9-1)=fifth level). This is the effect (at 0% research progress):
- Spell - Cost WITHOUT researching - Cost WITH researching (lvl 5)
- Sword of Light - 10,000 136 - 7,900 107
- Nature's Lore - 30,000 715 - 23,700 565
- Disintegrate - 17,500 237 - 13,825 187
- Summon Wraith - 8,750 83 - 6,913 66
- Phase Step - 10,500 100 - 8,295 79

Researching does not affect the learning of skills. Tested by turning on and off.
